The differences that actually matter
The media-hours ceiling is easy to underestimate
It counts what you put in, not what you get out. A weekly two-hour podcast is roughly 8 to 9 hours of media a month before you have edited a frame, which fits inside Hobbyist’s 10 hours with almost nothing to spare — and adding a second camera angle doubles it. Anyone running multi-track recordings should price Creator’s 30 hours or Business’s 40 as the realistic starting tier, not Hobbyist.
OpusClip’s export windows are a real constraint on the cheap tiers
Free-plan clips stop being exportable after 3 days, and Starter carries a 30-day limit on MP4 exports. Only Pro removes the limit. If you batch-produce and post over the following quarter, you are on Pro whether the features made you want it or not.
One of them is a single-purpose tool and that is fine
OpusClip does one job. Descript is trying to be your editor. If you already have an editor you like, adding OpusClip is a small, cheap, additive decision; migrating to Descript is a workflow change. Weigh the switching cost, not just the subscription.
Neither is a from-scratch tool
