Footage or words: pick the one you already have
OpusClip needs a long video you upload or link, and every output frame comes from it. Pictory needs text — a script, a URL or a document — and supplies the visuals itself, adding long-video input only from Professional at $59/month or $35 annually. If your input is an idea and a blank page, neither is ideal, but Pictory is closer.
Pictory’s allowance is enormous and OpusClip’s is cheap
Pictory Starter is 200 video minutes a month, or 2,400 a year, at $29/month or $25 annually — at 35 seconds a Short that is well over a hundred a month. OpusClip Starter is 150 credits at $15/month, monthly billing only. One buys volume; the other buys the lowest entry price in this pair.
The free paths fail in opposite ways
OpusClip Free gives 60 credits a month at up to 1080p, watermarked, and clips stop being exportable after 3 days. Pictory lists a 14-day free trial on every tier and no permanently free plan. OpusClip lets you keep evaluating forever but takes your output away after a long weekend; Pictory gives you everything for a fortnight and then stops.
One narrates and one does not
Pictory generates an AI voiceover from your text as a core feature. OpusClip uses whatever audio is already in your footage — there is no text-to-speech narration of a written script. If nobody is going to record narration, that single line rules OpusClip out entirely.

The differences that actually matter
The 3-day export expiry is OpusClip’s hidden cost
On the free plan, OpusClip states that clips are no longer exportable after 3 days. Starter carries a 30-day limit on MP4 exports and only Pro removes it. Pictory does not publish an equivalent export window; it meters minutes and is done. If you batch-produce and publish over the following quarter, that difference alone decides your tier.
Where the visuals come from
Every OpusClip frame is footage you shot. Every Pictory frame is stock matched to your text. That determines the look, the cost, the licensing and how repeatable the format is. It also means that Pictory can produce a video about something you never filmed, and OpusClip structurally cannot.
Watermarks: one on the free plan, one with no free plan
OpusClip watermarks free-plan clips and removes the watermark from Starter at $15/month. Pictory states no watermark on paid plans and has no permanently free plan to watermark. Both give you clean output at their first paid step; only one of them lets you look before you pay.
Neither writes the words
Pictory needs your text and OpusClip needs your recording. Neither generates the script itself. If the step that keeps not happening is writing, both of these products start after your bottleneck rather than at it.
