Pictory accepts a script, a URL or a document on every tier, and adds long-video input from Professional at $59/month, or $35 billed annually. Captions is built around a clip you record or upload, with generative elements available from Max at $24.99/month. If your raw material is words, one of these is designed for you and the other is not.
Neither evaluation path is generous
Pictory lists a 14-day free trial on every tier and no permanently free plan. Captions Free is permanent but lists basic editing and one caption template with no AI credits and no generative AI features. Testing Pictory properly means a clock; testing Captions properly means paying $24.99.
Pictory meters minutes and Captions meters credits
Pictory Starter is $29/month, or $25 annually, for 200 video minutes a month — 2,400 a year. Professional is $59, or $35, for 600 minutes. Sourced stock versus generated footage
Pictory matches built-in stock visuals to the text you supply. Captions lists generative b-roll, images and video from Max up — invented rather than sourced. These fail differently: stock can be generic, generation can be uncanny. Both are worth testing on your specific niche rather than argued about in the abstract.
One has an AI voiceover on every tier and one sells it as a credit
Pictory includes AI voiceover generated from your text on its paid tiers, as part of the core premise. Captions lists generative voiceover on paid tiers as one of several things credits are spent on, with none available free. If narration is the point of the video, one product treats it as the product and the other as a line item.
Team support is published on one side only
Pictory Team at $199/month, or $119 annually, is explicitly for 3+ users.
