Kineo vs Pictory
Buy Pictory if you have written material to repurpose — blog posts, documents or long scripts — and you want control over the result across more than one aspect ratio. Buy Kineo if you have a topic or a short production script and want a finished Short without an editing timeline. We publish this page, so treat the Pictory column as their case and verify it at pictory.ai/pricing.
The verdict
Pictory takes more kinds of input, and that is a real advantage
Script, URL or document on every tier, plus long-video input from the Professional tier up. Kineo accepts a topic or a pasted production script of up to 1,000 characters, but it does not import a URL or document. If you have a library of long-form written content to repurpose, Pictory is built for exactly that and Kineo is not.
Kineo can write the script — or use the one you bring
Pictory needs words. Kineo can generate them from a topic, or preserve the spoken lines of a production script you paste, then narrate them and match footage line by line. The first path is for an idea with no draft; the second is for a Short already written.
Trial terms differ in a way that matters
Pictory lists a 14-day free trial and no permanently free plan. Every new account starts with the Creator trial: $1 for 7 days, 80 credits up front, Kineo 1 and Seedance unlocked. After 7 days it continues at $29/month (about one film a day) unless you cancel.
On volume, Pictory’s quota is larger and differently shaped
Pictory Starter is $29/month, or $25/month annually, for 200 video minutes a month. At 35 seconds a Short that is well over three hundred. Kineo Starter is $14.00/month for 60 credits; a 60-second Kineo 1 video costs 5 and Kling 2.5 costs 50. Cheaper per month, and metered by render quality and duration rather than a monthly minute pool.
Side by side
Every figure below was read off each vendor’s own pricing page on July 26, 2026. Where a tier table did not resolve to readable prices, the cell says so rather than guessing — a wrong competitor price is worse than no price at all.
| Kineo | Pictory | |
|---|---|---|
| What it actually is | Turns one typed topic or a pasted production script into a finished faceless Short — AI voiceover, matched footage and captions. | Turns writing you already have — a script, an article, a document — into a narrated video with stock visuals. |
| Needs an existing video? | No footage is required. Start with a topic, or paste up to 1,000 characters of your own production script; there is no timeline to learn. | Yes, but text counts. A script, a URL or a document is enough; long-video input is added from the Professional tier up. |
| Free tier | Every new account starts with the Creator trial: $1 for 7 days, 80 credits up front, Kineo 1 and Seedance unlocked. After 7 days it continues at $29/month (about one film a day) unless you cancel. | A 14-day free trial. No permanently free plan is listed on the pricing page. |

| Voice / narration | AI voiceover generated from the script, with a narrator voice matched to the subject. On Kling 3 and MiniMax H3 a character on screen can also speak the scripted line with lip sync, alternating with the narrator inside the same film. | AI voiceover is included and generated from your text. |
| Where the visuals come from | Stock footage matched scene by scene to the actual voiceover lines, plus generative engines on higher tiers. | Built-in stock visuals matched to the text you supply. |

Which one you should pick
Pick Kineo if…
- Your input is a topic or a short production script, not a document or URL — and you want a finished video rather than an editing project.
- One ratio per render fits your workflow; Kineo supports 9:16, 16:9, 1:1 and 4:5.
- Budget is the binding constraint: Kineo Starter is $14.00/month, against $29.
- You want an open-ended free tier rather than a 14-day clock.
- You want footage matched to the actual narration lines rather than to a paragraph of source text.
Pick Pictory if…
- You have long articles, documents or scripts beyond Kineo’s 1,000-character paste handoff waiting to become video.
- You need more than one aspect ratio from the same source.
- You need long-video input, which Pictory adds from the Professional tier up.
- You want a large monthly ceiling: 200 minutes on Starter, 600 on Professional, 1,800 on Team.
- You are buying for a team: Team is $199/month, or $119/month annually, for 3+ users. Kineo has no comparable seat tier.
The differences that actually matter
Metering: minutes versus render type
Pictory counts video minutes per month regardless of how the video was made. Kineo counts credits by render engine — Kineo 1 5, Seedance 25, Kling 2.5 50, AI Presenter 70, Kling 3 150 credits per 60-second video — and credits do not roll over. Pictory’s model is easier to predict; Kineo’s lets you spend nothing on drafts and a lot on the one you publish.
Aspect ratio
Both support multiple ratios. The difference is where the frame is decided: Pictory re-frames a finished video, and warns that some visuals may need repositioning. Kineo asks the engine for 9:16, 16:9, 1:1 or 4:5 before the scene exists, so nothing is cropped and the price is the same. The real limit here is one ratio per render — four frames of the same film means four renders.
Team support
Pictory has a Team tier with seats. Kineo does not publish one. If more than one person needs access, Pictory is the answer by default.
What each does with your text
Pictory reads a script, URL or document and matches stock visuals to it. Kineo either writes from a topic or preserves the spoken lines in a pasted production script, then matches footage scene by scene. Both end in narrated video; the source formats and editing control are the actual product difference.
Frequently asked questions
Does Pictory have a free plan?
No permanently free plan is listed. A 14-day free trial appears on every tier, verified at pictory.ai/pricing on July 26, 2026.
Which is cheaper?
Kineo Starter is $14.00/month, against Pictory Starter at $29/month, or $25/month billed annually. Pictory buys you a much larger monthly minute allowance and more input formats for that difference, so cheaper is not automatically better here.
Can Kineo turn a blog post into a video?
Not as a URL or document import. You can paste a production script of up to 1,000 characters into Kineo, but a long article still needs to be condensed first. If direct long-form repurposing is the job, Pictory is built for it and Kineo is not.
Can Pictory make vertical Shorts?
Yes — it supports multiple aspect ratios including vertical. Its 200-minute Starter allowance is more than enough for a daily Shorts schedule.
Which one writes the script?
Kineo can write a script from a topic; it can also use a production script you paste. Pictory expects source words as a script, URL or document and builds the video around them.
I already have a Shorts script. Which one should I use?
Both can use it. Choose Kineo when the production script fits its 1,000-character paste handoff and you want a finished Short without a timeline. Choose Pictory when the text is longer, lives in a URL or document, or you want more editing control.
Where we stand
Declared head-to-head: Kineo publishes this page and is one of the two tools.
