Kineo vs Synthesia

Buy Synthesia if an organisation is paying and the video needs a presenter, review, localisation and governance. Buy Kineo if you are one person filling a faceless channel and volume is the constraint. We publish this page: Synthesia is a far larger and more capable platform, and it is not priced or shaped for daily short-form.

The verdict

Ten minutes a month is the fact that decides it for creators

Synthesia includes up to 10 minutes of finished video a month on Basic and Starter at $29/month, or $18 billed yearly, and 30 minutes on Creator at $89, or $64. At 35 seconds a Short, 10 minutes is roughly 17 videos — for a whole month. Kineo Starter is $9.90/month for 60 credits with a 60-second Kineo 1 video costing 5 credits, and every new account starts with a Creator trial: 10 free credits.

Synthesia is the better platform on almost every axis except one

160+ languages and voices on every tier, 125+ to 240+ avatars, personal avatars, SAML/SSO, brand kits, SCORM export, an editor-plus-guests seat model, and a much larger company behind it. We are not going to pretend otherwise. The single axis where that reverses is a faceless vertical Short assembled from one typed sentence.

Their free tier is better than ours at showing you the product

Synthesia Basic gives 1,200 credits, up to 10 minutes of video a month, 25 AI-generated video assets, 9 avatars, 160+ languages and 1 editor seat, with the Synthesia logo on the output. Kineo: 10 free credits on signup with every engine unlocked, Kling 3 included. Trial films are watermarked; any paid plan unlocks clean downloads.

Kineo’s constraint is the point and it will read as a flaw

One ratio per render. No timeline, no seat tier, no governance, no SCORM, no brand kit. One typed topic in; script, AI voiceover, footage matched scene by scene, captions out. Every one of those absences is deliberate, and every one of them is a reason to buy Synthesia instead if your situation calls for it.

Side by side

Every figure below was read off each vendor’s own pricing page on July 26, 2026. Where a tier table did not resolve to readable prices, the cell says so rather than guessing — a wrong competitor price is worse than no price at all.

Kineo and Synthesia compared on the 11 things that decide it for a faceless-channel operator, each cell dated with the day it was read off the vendor’s own page.

Which one you should pick

Pick Kineo if…

  • The format is faceless: narration over matched footage, no presenter, no slide.
  • Volume is the constraint and you post most days.
  • You have a topic, not a script, and writing it is the step that keeps not happening.
  • One ratio per render fits your workflow; Kineo supports 9:16, 16:9, 1:1 and 4:5.
  • Budget is binding: Kineo Starter is $9.90/month, against $29 or $89.

Pick Synthesia if…

  • A company is paying, and the video is training, onboarding, policy or internal comms.
  • A presenter on screen is the requirement.
  • You need SAML/SSO, brand kits or SCORM export — those are on Enterprise and they are the reason to be here.
  • You are localising: 160+ languages and voices on every tier, the free plan included.
  • Reviewers need access without buying an editor seat each: 1 editor plus 3 guests on Starter, plus 5 on Creator.

The differences that actually matter

What appears on screen

Synthesia: an avatar, often with a slide behind it — a presenter format. Kineo: stock and generative footage matched to each voiceover line, with burned-in captions and nobody on camera. This is a decision about what your content looks like, and it should be made deliberately rather than inherited from whichever tool you happened to sign up for.

How each meters you, and where each runs out

Synthesia meters minutes of finished video and credits: 1,200 credits and 10 minutes on Starter, 3,600 and 30 minutes on Creator. Kineo meters credits by render engine — Kineo 1 5, Seedance 25, Kling 2.5 50, AI Presenter 70, Kling 3 150 credits per 60-second video — and those credits do not roll over. Synthesia publishes both monthly and annual credit allowances; we did not find a rollover guarantee on its page either, so treat both as use-it-or-lose-it unless confirmed.

Watermark and logo

Synthesia puts its logo on free-plan video and makes it removable on any paid plan, cheapest at $29/month or $18 yearly. Kineo watermarks free renders and every paid plan exports a clean MP4 from $9.90/month. Both are explicit about it; the difference is what the cheapest clean output costs.

Teams, governance and everything Kineo does not have

Synthesia sells seats, guests, SSO, brand kits and SCORM export. Kineo publishes no seat tier at all. If more than one person needs access, or if procurement will ask about single sign-on, Synthesia is the answer by default and this is not a close call.

Frequently asked questions

Is Kineo cheaper than Synthesia?

Yes at list: Kineo Starter is $9.90/month, against Synthesia Starter at $29/month or $18 billed yearly, verified at synthesia.io/pricing on July 26, 2026. They are not priced for the same job, so the comparison only helps if either tool could do what you need.

How many videos can I make on Synthesia per month?

It is metered in minutes rather than videos: up to 10 minutes a month on Basic and Starter, 30 on Creator, unlimited only on Enterprise. At 35 seconds a Short, 10 minutes is roughly 17 videos for the whole month.

Can Synthesia make faceless videos?

Its product is an avatar delivering a script, and the tiers are built around avatar counts, personal avatars, languages and minutes. Using it without an avatar means paying for the marquee feature and not using it.

Does Kineo have avatars?

There is an AI Presenter render type, priced at 70 credits. It is not the centre of the product and it is not comparable to Synthesia’s 125+ to 240+ avatars, personal avatars or 160+ languages. If a presenter is the reason you are shopping, buy Synthesia.

Which free tier is better?

They are not comparable. Synthesia Basic gives 1,200 credits and up to 10 minutes of video a month with 9 avatars and 160+ languages, at the cost of a logo. Kineo: 10 free credits on signup with every engine unlocked, Kling 3 included. Trial films are watermarked; any paid plan unlocks clean downloads.

Where we stand

Our own product · declared

This is a declared head-to-head — Kineo publishes it and is one of the two tools. Synthesia is the larger and more capable platform and we have made its case as strongly as we would if they wrote it. Every Synthesia figure here came from synthesia.io/pricing on July 26, 2026. If you need governed presenter video, buy Synthesia; Kineo will not do that job at all.
